[Technical Inquiry] EKI-1521 with DNS

EKI-1521 with DNS

Hello,I am facing some problems using EKI-1521.
I have a server and EKI-1521 on the different plants. So they are connecting to each other through a DNS server.
I have specified the IP address, gateway and DNS server on the device, but the server still cannot find EKI-1521 nor by pinging or utility.

The same IP address setting is applicable on the computer.

What ports do I need for Serial Device Server Utility?
and Do I need any other setting in order to ping the EKI-1521 through DNS?

Anyone has the solution?
Thank you in advance.

Hi, DNS is a lookup protocol, it turns "names" into IP addresses. It doesn't have anything to do with IP routing.  The serial device server utility doesn't use DNS to resolve names for EKI units found on the network.

If you can't ping the device by IP address, you have a IP routing problem. You should contact your network administrator in order to determine the IP structure between your "server" and "plant" networks.  Perhaps you have a firewall blocking communications between them.

Thank you very much for your advise.I have got some more questions.
Do I have to open any special port on the router to use the utility?

I think the utility uses port 5058 for configuration, but I've not tested it.  For Virtual COM ports to work port 5202 needs to be open.

Hi,I have checked the network, and it seemed to be fine.
There are 2 networks separated by VLAN, and connected by a router.
The server is on Network1. and EKI-1521 is on Network2.

The server can ping other computers in Network2.
And the computers on Network2 can ping the server.
The computers within the same Network as EKI-1521 (Network2) can ping EKI-1521.
But the computers (including the server) in Network 1 cannot ping EKI-1521.

I have tried the IP configuration of EKI-1521 on the computer, so there should not have problem with the IP configuration.

And all ports on the router have been opened.

I have attached the image for you.
Could it be that the packet cannot go across VLAN?

Pinging between the computers and the EKI should always work. The ICMP packets will show a good connection.

In a VLAN configuration the edge devices aren't aware of the core VLAN setup, if the VLAN is configured correctly.

It is working on the demo network I created.
But not working on the real working site network.
The problem could be on the real network. May be some traffic blocking.
Anyway, thank you very much.

Do you know what is the Firmware version of EKI-1521? Is it V1.58? If it is V1.58, please try to test with V1.47.

You need to ask your network administrator to reserve TCP/UDP port number 5048 and 5058 for EKI.Because in secure

network where all the ports are needed to be identify and specify to be open.

You also can check the VLAN configuration - they may have MAC address filtering or other specific features that block your traffic.

Also I have the same problem with ADAM - 4570 it works at local network properly but when I try to connect over modem router (all ports are open) its not working.
